Anybody seen the ‘Horton Hears a Who’ movie yet? Care to tell us about it?
I've had a ton of fun just watching various trailers and reviews of that new animated movie, "Horton Hears a Who," last week as the various networks hyped it for a weekend opening.
Nor surprisingly, the movie ran over the box office competition, with something around $45.1 million for the opening weekend. Whoo Hoo! (Or should that be, "Whoo Who"?) Always good to see a more family-oriented flick make a killing at the box office. "No Country for Old Men" certainly has its place. But that place isn't around people under the age of about 18 or so, is it?
Anyway, I'd love to hear about the film with a "reader's review" if you've seen it and would care to post a comment about it. Just the clips I've seen on television, including a fun Carol Burnett interview last week on "Today," were great. Although my kids are grown and we haven't any grandkids yet, Shirley and I just might find the time and shell out the bucks to go see it.
Oh, one more thing. I have a brother who lives in Massachusetts not far from where "Dr. Seuss" lived. The local legend has it that a road which winds down a nearby hillside was where Seuss was riding when he looked out across their town and came up with the idea for Whoville. So I'm rather proud to say my little brother actually lives in Whoville!

Do you twitter? I just started twittering a couple of days ago
I'd seen talk about Twitter and even had some online friends who were twittering. But I never got around to taking a look at Twitter until a couple of days ago.
Now I've signed up -- and even though I don't do IM or text messaging on my cell phone, I still find myself spending time at my twitter site every day, jotting down a meaningless note or two about what I'm doing at the time, looking over the twitters from friends, etc.
It can be sort of "addictive," I guess. It's so deceptively simple, I find myself wondering what I'm not figuring out about using Twitter. Am I just overthinking it? Is there really a purpose/use for it?
Or, in keeping with the theme of this blog, is twitter just another of life's little pleasures, fun things we need to pay attention to before each day slips away.
Okay, let's go twitter. If you twitter, you can join me there and you're welcome to "follow" me:
See you at twitter?

Hey that was fun — our local newspaper ran my ‘Reader’s Letter’
Vanity is a strange, often amusing thing, isn't it? In my case for example, I manage to convince myself that I'm your average, generally humble sort of guy. Then I send a letter to the editor expressing an opinion -- and get all excited when I find it printed in the daily "Reader's Letters" section.
What makes that particularly silly is this: I worked as a copy editor at the same newspaper for more than seven years. That was a number of years ago, and there are only one or two people still working in the news room who know me. Nevertheless, having worked there I understand what a ho-hum deal the whole print media process really is.
But then I realize what a kick it always is to see your name and photo -- even though it's a tiny little "avatar-sized" photo -- published in a venue where you've put your name on the line before the whole community. It's a kick. It's fun. (FYI -- the photo isn't in the online version.)
And, given the strange people in this world and our community, somewhere between risky and scary.
Of course, if I get any negative feedback, I can always disavow all knowledge of anyone by that name and face. Hmm ...
Okay, so maybe I should get back to the business of finding ways I can take time today to help someone take more pleasure in life.
