May God’s richest blessings and best life be yours in 2009!

Here’s a wish for you for great times and good times in 2009. I would be remiss to end 2008, a tough year for just about everyone I know, without laying down a heart-felt prayer/blessing for all who hang out here with me.

I’ve found and chosen to share with you what claims to be “An Old Irish Blessing.” I don’t know how old it really is, as sometimes people make things up on the Internet (yes, shocking but true), and sometimes they simply get things wrong. Given all that, it’s a fitting note to end 2008, and my prayer for you and your family, as well as me and my family, is this:

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life’s passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

May God’s richest blessings and best life be yours in 2009!

My best last-minute Christmas gift suggestions

If you were planning on giving any major gifts for the holidays, it may be too late, obviously, to get that purchased and delivered in time for Christmas. (Dare you to find an ac compressor or window ac unit anywhere near my house as a last-minute Christmas gift. But then who gives ac units for Christmas??)

I’m really just passing along and adapting an idea I saw on “Today Show” this morning, though, when I suggest you 1) buy something last-minute and cute at a 24-hour drugstore, or even better, 2) MAKE a gift yourself. There are tons of quickie, handmade craft ideas, ranging from family scrapbooks to a neighborhood photo montage, you can find with a quick Google search. Go ahead and try it.

Are handmade/homemade gifts an option? Certainly they are. If the person you are giving the gift to can’t appreciate something you’ve given of yourself, then they don’t deserve or really want a gift from you anyway, right??

Seriously, use your talents and your time and commit them to someone as a gift for the holidays. Offer to baby-sit for someone. Offer to do housework, dish washing, lawn care, etc., for a friend or family member who will surely appreciate the help.

Most importantly: Vow that you’ll do your present planning and holiday shopping a LOT earlier next year!

Holidays may be good time to find that career or job you want

It’s pretty much the major holiday season for most of us. I know here in the U.S., Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, followed next week by New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, pretty much define what people think of as “the holidays.” So, with today being Christmas Eve, it’s probably not an ideal time to get your marketing resumes or any other sort of resumes noticed.

But then, given the economic hard times the whole world may be going through, the traditional “down time” most of us experience around holidays may also be a great opportunity. If you “market” yourself primarily online, you needn’t let things like business hours, HR office hours, etc., stop you. You certainly can use the holidays to “network” with people you might like to work with or work for — just don’t make it a pushy “job hunting” sort of thing. Be casual, be sociable, and be vigilant in your job pursuit, and do it with class.

Whatever your situation, may the holidays be a blessed time — and if you’re looking for work, may it be a profitable time for you, too.
