As a Cardinals fan, I have very mixed feelings about MLB season
Wouldn't it be pathetic to be a Chicago Cubs fan? I mean, really, year after year -- still no World Series.
Just kidding, all you Cubs fans out there. Believe me, after last year and the way things look this season, as a St. Louis Cardinals' fan, I feel a measure of your pain.
It seems, as my wife and I both scream repeatedly at the television screen -- "Pitching! Pitching! Pitching! Pitching!" -- that the Cardinals' ownership and management just doesn't get it. They will never be better than their poorest pitchers. Year after year they rave about what a great fan base St. Louis has, how glorious the Cardinals have been and can be, how supportive the loyal Cardinals' fans and owners are -- but, really, it's all a bunch of BUNK.
I'm not giving up on the Cardinals this year. They had a mediocre season last year and traded away several key players. I haven't seen or heard about any real improvements to their pitching staff. And, frankly, at the risk of sounding like a heretic -- it's REALLY PAST TIME to find better coaching, especially the pitching coach, Dave Duncan. Yeah, I know. Where Tony LaRussa goes, there will always be Dave Duncan. But I'm getting weary year after year of hearing all the glories of Dave Duncan, while his pitchers misfire, under perform, etc., year after year.
Ah, well. Welcome to the joys of major league baseball -- and I haven't even touched on the steroid/banned drugs issues, see?
