Boise State football: ‘Rodney Dangerfield’ of college sports
Remember the comedian Rodney Dangerfield and the comedy routine he pioneered that centered on “I don’t get no respect”?
I’ve discovered that a school I went to has become sort of the Rodney Dangerfield of college football — I’m talking about the Boise State University Broncos.
The Broncos have gone undefeated 3 of the last 5 seasons, including this season. They are ranked Number 9 right now in the BCS Championship standings.
And I just heard a lengthy discussion by some TV sports gurus explaining why the 10-2 Ohio State Buckeyes are more deserving of the final possible “at-large” BCS Bowl Game instead of Boise State.
For the record: I am a proud graduate of Boise High School (class of ’65) and did my first two years of college at what was then called Boise College and became Boise State University. (My wife was in the first 4-year degree graduating class of Boise College.)
Although neither I nor my wife have lived in Boise or even visited there since 1984, we are loyal to the core to the Broncos Orange and Blue! Go Broncos!
Ah, well. To paraphrase the great Rodney — “They don’t get no respect.”
