Don’t let light bulb choices dim your enthusiasm for life today
Am I the only one who notices a serious dimness about these new energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs)? I'm turning into an "Old Fart" with probably less acute eyesight than I had just a few years ago. Heck, there might even be some cataracts hanging around the old eyeballs. So possibly it's just me.
But I don't think it's just me. I don't believe the dimmer, odd colored light many of the CFLs give off will ever compete against some beautiful maxim lighting fixtures and fancy bulbs. Nor will they ever match the brightness of the incandescent bulb we used to put in the lamp on a shelf which was the main source of light in our living room.
Of course, none of those 170 watt incandescent bulbs in the lamp on a shelf will burn even a third as long as their CFL replacements, so that part is a good thing.
On the other hand, I've read some blog rants complaining that the CFLs have a mercury content that makes them dangerous if they break, and somewhat expensive to dispose of properly when they burn out. I dunno. Maybe it's all worth the trade off.
But don't let fears of mercury or worries about dim bulbs darken your life today. Cheer up. Brighten up. Take time for living!
