First experiences with really BIG television were delightful
My wife and I had our first experiences last weekend with a really BIG LCD television, and it was very impressive.
Our son indulged himself, after a combination of years of hard work and some frustration with stock investing/trading, he decided he deserved to indulge himself a bit — he bought a 52 inch Sony LCD. Just for fun, he brought the still-in-the-box beauty by our house and set it up for us to enjoy over the weekend.
I was truly amazed, even WITHOUT HDTV, how beautiful watching television (especially HD Blu-Ray DVDs!) could be on such a machine.
In the first place, our house has a sort of tiny living room, with only one place to set up such a huge television. He didn’t buy any special tv stand or anything to put it on, simply using the built-in pedestal that came with the Sony. Simply getting it set up involved filling our living room pretty effectively with 1) our old television, 2) extra cables and cords galore, 3) and extra stands to hold our ancient DVD player and satellite box/DVR.
We got it all put together and arranged so that there was still room for people (!), and enjoyed watching our hapless but beloved KC Chiefs lose Sunday to the evil San Diego Chargers — which is a whole other story I won’t get into.
Sunday evening, our son reversed the whole process, repacked the monster television, and carted it off to his home. It was great fun, he did all the grunt work setting things up and taking them down, and we truly appreciated the chance to see such beautiful television viewing.
We also dropped some not-too-subtle hints that mom and dad here might have room for a 40 or 42 inch LCD screen, should Santa want to bring one our way for Christmas.
Maybe.
