Here’s cause for optimism — gasoline prices
By Gary | December 2, 2008
When I was out and around earlier today I stopped to buy gas for my trusty old 1995 Ford Contour. I went to the self-serve window and gave the guy $10 cash for my gas. He programmed the pump, and I went back and pumped. Try as I might, I could only cram $9.25 gas into the car.
How wonderful to go back to the booth for change, after so many months of watching the old buggy gulp down twice as much cash each time I stopped for gas. Not many weeks back, gas here got to $3.899, maybe a bit more (though we never hit $4.00), per gallon. Now it's back down to $1.549 as of this morning. Last week it was actually down to $1.489 -- yes, I know, amazing. (We've been privileged here in Missouri, I understand, to have had the lowest gasoline rates in the nation during all this.)
SO -- Right there you have reason to be a little bit more optimistic about the economy: Crude oil prices and gasoline prices have fallen way off of those insane highs of a few months ago.
