Holiday decorations or serious security measures?

What’s going on at your house this time of the year — holiday decorations or serious home security measures?

Coming from someone who grew up in a small town where we literally didn’t lock our doors — me — that’s a question which is hard to ask. But given the news these days of everything from burglary to armed home invasions, maybe wireless security systems are more logical home decor for the holidays instead of bright strings of lights.

No, I refuse to get that cynical. And I hope you’ll not be that cynical either.

Sure, bad things happen. They happen at shopping malls, convenience stores, and, yes, even in our neighborhoods and our homes. But we simply must “press on” and go about the holidays with joy and fervor. If you want, think of it in terms of “good against evil,” or “light against darkness”: Let your life reflect the joy of Christmas and good will toward all.

Maybe it’s even appropriate to say, “What goes around comes around,” or whatever that saying is. In biblical terms that has to do with “sowing and reaping.” Do good and ultimately good will come back to you.
