I had no idea ping pong was so popular once again
Enough holiday charm/cheer for now — let’s get down to serious sports and sportsmanship. How about ping pong or table tennis as it’s also called?
My wife and I frequently use our trusty DVR to record the “CBS Sunday Morning” show to watch later in the day after church and NFL football is over. (Now our secrets are out; you see how we spend our Sundays.) Yesterday’s program had a fascinating humor segment about ping pong.
It seems that ping pong is making a huge “come back” as a popular sport. At least at the nightclub in Manhattan where they interviewed various local characters and celebrities on the sport. That particular club was completely built around the game. There were huge, beautiful ping pong tables there being vigorously filled with young, trendy players and even famous celebrities.
I’m not talking about some sort of video ping pong game or Wii ping pong — I’m talking about honest-to-goodness, paddle in hand ping pong.
Who knew it was making such a come back. Next thing you know, we’ll find a way to send a team over and face off over the ping pong table with a team in Iran. Then maybe we’ll get some real peace initiatives going. (Remember China and ping pong diplomacy back in the 1970s?)
