Last post made me think of fun Mothers Days in our family

The cynics out there say Mothers Day is something that was invented by the floral and greeting card industries just to make a profit. Shame on those cynics, and may their mothers be rewarded for their patience in putting up with such ungrateful children! (grin)

But many of us have a lifetime of fond Mothers Day memories, and more than a little Mothers Day humor. When our kids were young -- probably about 8 and 10? -- there was the Mothers Day their mom flipped the gravy boat.

We were at a "family style" restaurant for Mothers Day dinner, the kind that brings the food out in bowls and serving dishes that you pass around the table yourselves. One of the kids asked my wife to please pass the gravy. Her hold on the bowl slipped, and the bowl flipped exactly upside down, landing with just enough force to form a seal with the table cloth. She quickly reached out, flipped the bowl back upright, and there was hardly a drop lost on the table.

We still marvel at Mom's skill and quick reflexes on that occasion.

I truly hope Mothers Day will be special for you and your mom this year. Share some love and some laughs with the special person in your life!
