Sleep deprived? Maybe not so much after all?
You’ve seen the newcasts on TV and the news articles in most magazines and papers decrying American’s inability to get enough sleep.
Come to find out, we’re actually getting more sleep per week than we were a few years ago, according to a study set to be released today by the University of Maryland. Yes indeed. Sociologists at that school compared statistics from 2005 and 2000, and we’re now getting an average of three more hours per week. (Well, “now” in this case is 2005.)
The study I discussed here is contradicted by the recently publicized surveys indicating Americans average 48 hours of sleep per week in 2008. BUT — those same surveys done in 2005 indicated 49 hours instead of the 56 hours used by the U of Maryland researchers. Different surveys, different methodologies, I guess.
Who really knows? I do — and you do. I don’t think I’m getting much more or less in recent months/years than in the past. How about you?
