Sometimes life seems like a never-ending treadmill
By Gary | July 4, 2008
I'm not sure why we use treadmills as metaphors for "boring and tedious," because I've always enjoyed the few times I've used a treadmill or treadmill-like device. I enjoy the almost hypnotic "sameness" and repetitive nature of walking a few miles on a treadmill while enjoying the weather-free climate control of a good fitness center.
Of course, you eventually get off the fitness center treadmills and get back into real-life.
When real-life circumstances get "treadmillish," boring and humdrum, life begins to lose its luster. When your job, family, personal habits and interests, whatever, drop you into a rut and you feel that life is just too routine -- THAT'S what I mean by "never-ending treadmill."
That's exactly the way our lives go most of the time in the real world, don't they? We have jobs and responsibilities that may (hopefully) be challenging and may (hopefully) be fun. But more often the challenge and the fun are lacking and we still are responsible for doing the job.
Take heart. You can choose to live today with a sense of wonder and excitement. You can decide exactly how joyful your life will be. It's up to you. It's all in how you choose to react or not react to all that comes your way today.
May you turn every crisis into a challenging opportunity and live a joy-filled life today no matter what comes your way!
