Speaking of aging — why is everyone else so wrinkled?
While I’m on the subject of getting old (see my last post), I’m compelled to ask this — why is everyone my age so wrinkled? Why am I the only one who shows absolutely no sign of aging as I get older? Am I unknowingly cursed with a “never grow old” visage? A real-life Dorian Gray??
Okay, you get it. I’m really NOT sporting a perpetually young face and body. I really DO look and feel like I’m getting older. (In fact, the old bod wobbles more and feels the aches and pains of aging a little more every day.) Honestly, though, I do have people tell me (kiss ups that they may be!) that I look several years younger than I am. And, honestly again, neither I nor my wife partake of any anti wrinkle treatment lotions or potions.
What started me thinking about all this was a nice evening we spent a week ago tonight visiting with some cousins. Actually, the wife was my wife’s cousin and her husband and I just enjoyed getting acquainted. We had not seen these cousins for just about 40-41 years. (Yes, I really AM as old as I say I am. No, not THAT old, though.) We hadn’t even seen this nice couple once in all those years, nor had we or they seen any photos of each other.
They phoned us when they came into town and we agreed to meet at a local restaurant. When we walked in and saw them, we immediately recognized them; they immediately recognized us. Yet, in their case and ours, all of us were more gray and white than we used to be, where we used to have brown or red hair — without exception all four of us had many more wrinkles and sags were we used to have smooth and tight skin and bodies. (Well, maybe not “tight,” but “tighter” back then.)
Ah, aging. It can be easy or hard. I choose to make it easy, how about you??
