Speaking of politics — I’m really proud of my country in this historic year
By Gary | June 4, 2008
I'm as brain-dead weary of presidential politics as any of you out there. This has seemed a LONG presidential campaign -- and if you consider all the pre-campaign campaigning, it really has been a long one. And the general election campaign has not technically even started yet!
But you can break out the national, metaphorical maternity clothes because in America there's a new sort of nation "aborning." We have been aware for several months now that for the first time in American history there is a strong possibility that we would elect the first woman or first African-American as president.
Now, it is very likely that we will elect either 1) the oldest president in the history of our nation, or, 2) the first African-American president. And what a wonderful touch it would be if we elected the first African-American president and woman vice president. (Although, if you look at my previous post, I think Sen. Hillary Clinton would do much better in a different role.)
Whatever happens on Election Day next November, our nation will never be the same, just based on the events and issues of this campaign alone. And if we elect Sen. Barak Obama, it will be a truly historic day.
It's a good time to be alive and be a part of history, isn't it?
