What are you doing for summer vacation? Or are you?

By Gary | June 1, 2008

Last year my wife and I had a delightful trip from our home here in southwest Missouri to Maryland and Massachusetts, courtesy of our two perfect and wonderful children. (Kissie, kissie, kissie -- never hurts to butter up the kids for THIS year, does it?)

The occasion was my younger brother's retirement from the Army, with a party held in D.C. (within 30 miles of my older brother in Maryland), where younger bro served last working as an, uh, intelligence analyst (i.e., "spy"). 'Twas quite a trip. Saw a bunch of relatives we rarely saw, got some nice pictures, and had a wonderful time.

This summer, vacation probably won't happen. Too many unresolved money issues right now. Plus, I'm starting a new job and can't really get away.

What's on your summer travel agenda? Are you planning some sort of wonderful luxury vacations to exotic places? Or are you just hoping for enough extra cash to afford a couple of tanks of gas in the buggy for a day trip??

I hope the summer does indeed hold some special time for you with family and friends. Call it a vacation or not, we all need to "take time for living," and that includes the luxury of some time off from regular routines. I hope you get that.
