What works for you when life’s storms come along?

When the storms of life come through our neighborhood, friends and family alike encourage me not to worry: “Why, that old house of yours has been there over 100 years and hasn’t ever been blown away or fallen down. You’ll be fine.” But still I get nervous. After all, this old house has been here over 100 years and simply can’t last forever.

I guess that’s just one more example of the “glass half full or glass half empty” syndrome we all struggle with in life, don’t we?

I mean, granted, this old house has been around awhile. (No, I was not exaggerating about the 100+ years.) But who’s to say the odd storm wind or twister won’t turn it into a pile of boards and shingles just as easily as it might a newer home, or trailer, or manufactured home? (I’ve never been sure about the difference between a trailer home and a manufactured home. Are they just different names for the same thing?)

Nevertheless, for the sake of my sanity and family peace, I’m learning to think half full instead of half empty. Yes, I tell myself with every stormy day, this old house has stood the test of time. I’m sure it’ll last a few more years for me and my wife, won’t it?
